Conversations about Jugaad
Jugaad is in our DNA. We grew up with it: hand-me-down clothes
that got softer with wear, fixing broken appliances ourselves rather than just ordering new ones, and so much more. These everyday actions honed our ingenuity. But the internet era has brought us an increasing influence from Western culture, often leading to overconsumption and unsustainable habits.
Through unfiltered conversations with prominent artists, designers, and founders, this book reveals Jugaad's powerful potential as a driver for sustainable business growth, an untapped goldmine waiting to be rediscovered. This project seeks to reconnect our generation with our sustainably jugaadu roots and aims to be a tangible reminder of our inherent resourcefulness.

Behind the Scenes
The idea was to let the content of the interviews drive the design of the layouts. To choose the interviewees, I looked for individuals who went beyond, created work that truly and sustainably connected with the contemporary Indian society. This meant each person or group already had a fascinating story of change, making the content much richer. I wanted to make sure that the individuality of each of the interviewees came through the design of their articles, by keeping a minimum amount of visual features constant in order to hold the book together. Being the body text in Circular by Lineto Type Foundry, 10 pt and the vermillion colour #CA2C2A.
The other thread that ties the whole book together is the raw, spontaneous and coversational tone of the content, textually and visually. Most of it is edited to retain the flavour of listening to someone talk passionately about something they live by, over a chai. Instead of a standard digital approach to book layouts, I wanted to embrace the spirit of Jugaad, both philosophically and visually. My aim was to experiment with various materials and techniques, bridging the gap between analog and digital.
